REPURPOSED OBJECTS

Mannequin

A mannequin, also called dummy, brings to mind a female form suggesting caged vs. uncaged. The duster on top showcases the idea of being viewed.

Rug Beater with Hose

2017

At one time, it was common to see a woman using a rug beater to clean her carpets, which she hung over a clothesline or simply threw out on the ground. Later in the day, she set aside her domestic tools and covered her legs in something more frivolous and more feminine.

In this piece, I put together these contradictory pair of daily roles embedded in the expectation she and others have of herself.
